If you can take a picture of the shirt, send it to me at bookeditor42@yahoo.com.

Hey Everyone,

Here is the updated 2012 Race Schedule. I added races that Carol Musser is entering and updated the New Year's Day list. I'm not sure it is accurate, but several people who had planned to do the First on the First are now doing the River Run instead.

Let me know if you have updates and I will make them.

If anyone is looking for a December half marathon that is close, there is one December 3 in Ashland, OH. It is called the Tour de Ashland. Race day registration is accepted. Might be interesting. (I find the fact there are no port-a-johns on the course interesting to say the least.)

Hi Everyone,

Attached is the September-October issue of the Buckeye Striders Newsletter.

This issue is a little bit different from others. Vince Walsh volunteered to write an article about his recent trip to the Grand Canyon. The article is a little bit longer than what we usually run -- I hope you take the time to read it. There were several more photos, but I was not able to include more. I'll try to get some posted on the Buckeye Strider website. A trip like this is on my list of things to do! Vince has made me even more excited about trying it.

Thanks to Vince and Pat Roam for writing articles for this issue! Thank you to Barbara Gossman for gathering the race results and Laura Modisette for gathering the information about upcoming races. Please send your race results to her at barbaraan331@yahoo.com.

If you wish to contribute to a future issue, please send an email to me at bookeditor42@yahoo.com.

Hey Everyone,

When preparing a training schedule for the Parkersburg Half Marathon, I decided to go ahead and get one together for the Columbus Half, too. Note that this is an Intermediate training schedule. I heard a rumor that Centennial High School will keep its track open this summer, so we might be able to plan some group speed days there.

Fri, 03 Jun 2011 13:38:48 -0700 Saturday walk -- Correction http://buckeyestriders.com/saturday-walk-correction http://buckeyestriders.com/saturday-walk-correction
Striders,

Barb is traveling and doesn't have access to her computer. Here is a correction for tomorrow's walk.

The Group Walk for Saturday, June 4, will be at Sharon Woods Park at 8:00 am -- if you want to walk farther start at 7:30 a.m.  Meet at the starting point for the bike path.  We will be going counter clockwise around the 3.8 mile loop.  If you come late, go clockwise to meet the group coming around.

Following the Group Walk we will have breakfast at Scrambler Marie's Restaurant, 6152 Cleveland Avenue, just south of I-270, on the east side.

Sharon Woods is at 6911 Cleveland Avenue, opposite Saint Ann's Hospital.  Go to the first parking lot on the left after entering the park.

Hey Buckeye Striders:

Plan now to join us on a road trip to beautiful Chillicothe for our next Business meeting on Saturday, June 18!

We will meet at 9:00 a.m. at the Adena Mansions and Gardens (847 Adena Rd. Chillicothe, Ohio 45601) for our Group Walk. Pat Roam will provide water.

At 10:00 a.m. we will head to I-Hop for breakfast (brunch?) and the Business meeting.

The trip from Columbus is 1 hour and 15 minutes. Nancy Palma suggested that we arrange two meeting areas to car pool for the drive down: one on the northwest side, the other on the east side.

Please RSVP via email to me by Wednesday, June 15 if you plan to go. If you live in Columbus and are interested in car pooling, let me know. Please indicate if you are able to drive. We will arrange meeting locations and drivers when we know how many are going.

This is a great opportunity to walk in a new part of Ohio and to see Pat's new home town! It should be a lot of fun!

Cindi Leeman

Proposed Schedule:
• 7:30 a.m. Meet at car pool location (to be determined)
• 7:35 a.m. Leave for Chillicothe
• 8:50 a.m. Arrive at Adena Mansions and Gardens
• 9:00 a.m. Begin Group walk
• 10:00 a.m. End walk, go to I-Hop
• 10:15 a.m. Begin Business meeting
• 11:15 a.m. (Approximate) Leave Chillicothe, head back to Columbus
• 12:30 p.m. Arrive at car pool locations

Is anyone interested in doing the judged racewalk next weekend here in Columbus? There are two events: 1500 and 5000. The cost is only $5 each but you have to register by May 18.

I'd like to try it, but wonder how many racewalkers usually enter, what their ages are, etc. You have to register online at www.coacho.com.

I have this fear of being DQ'd in the first lap or finishing a good 5 min after everyone else. :-)

To Cindi,Laura and all the Striders, let me once again tell you how grateful I am for your friendship and support. Your birthday cards, your enthusiastic welcome of my visiting friend from Seattle, Yvonne, this incredible article about my beloved Tom --- all bring me to happy tears. You are the best!

The newsletter format is fantastic!  It inspires thoughts of how we might broaden our presence through electronic media. A truly professional product, one I believe would excite curiosity to find out more about our group.

Again, thank you for helping me through tough times and so honoring Tom. I know he is so proud of his friends

With much love, Peg

Subject: Re: Cleveland Marathon Race Walk Pacer Request

Hi Jack,
I have a request for any of the Buckeye Striders who might be interested in helping me pace at this year's Cleveland Marathon. I am pacing the event for walkers and our goal is to bring walkers and slower runners in under 6 hours. I know it is a little vague compared to regular running pacers but it worked pretty well last year. Last year I was the only pacer for this time frame and usually there are two pacers for each finishing time.
The responsibility includes keeping a steady pace for 13.1 miles (either first or second half) or for the entire 26.2 miles. The Marathon is Sunday morning, May 15.  It is best if the pacer's normal rate is around the 12:30 to 13 minute mile for a marathon. The benefits are paid entrance to the event, a nice pacer shirt, free parking in the VIP parking area.

I would really appreciate it if you could pass my request to your membership. I know there are some fantastic experienced Buckeye Striders and I would love it if I could share the experience with one of them. Please have them contact me at this e-mail or they can call me at 216-496-8156 if interested or if needing more information.

walk on,
Libby White
