Happy New Year
Dear Deb, Jack and fellow Striders:
First of all, I would like to wish everyone a happy new year and hope that your holiday season has been wonderful. I don't know what the weather is like in Columbus but here in Toledo, it looks like the crocuses and daffodils might be coming up. I cannot believe it has been almost a month since the holiday dinner and the Saturday walk at Sharon Woods. It was a real pleasure for me to meet all of you at the dinner, walk and breakfast. It was inspiring for me as I felt a little worn down after the marathon in October. When I got home that Saturday afternoon, I went to the YMCA for a 3-mile walk on the treadmill and then lifted weights. In fact that week was probably my best week of training in the past couple of months. I just read this month's newsletter and I guess I have not thought about my new year's resolution. But it has stimulated me to think about what resolution I should come up with. In the last half hour, I received my first copy of Jack Mortland's "Ohio Racewalker" and I am eager to delve into the wealth of knowledge he offers. This past month I bought 4 new books on racewalking that contain valuable advice/suggestions. I look forward to attempt to put them into practice.
I wish everyone the best in the new year's day walking events. I hope to go to the local metropark and walk at least 7 miles and if all goes well, maybe 10 miles. I am eagerly awaiting the next opportunity to go to Columbus again to meet and walk with the group. Attached is the photo which my wife took at Sharon Woods that Saturday morning on Steve's birthday.
With warm regards,
Vince
